Staff from the Special Assistance Network attended the 54th Annual Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning from January 13 thru 17, 2020 in Orlando, Florida. The Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning is the premier Estate Planning conference sponsored by the University of Miami School of Law in the United States. Staff from the Special Assistance Network learned all the latest case law and latest developments regarding the drafting, usage, and administration of Special Needs Trusts. The exposure of this information from the leading experts in the United States allows for the Special Assistance Network to be helpful and have greater ability to benefit its clients throughout the country. The Special Assistance Network was pleased to be invited to make a presentation to the Board of Directors and at the General Meeting of the Family & Friends Reaching for Abilities (FFRA), serving the developing mentally disabled of Citrus County, Florida. After the presentation there was a lengthy question/answer period which was attended by numerous families with family members that are Special Needs individuals. The Special Assistance Network made a presentation followed by a lengthy question/answer period at its Fifth (5th) Anniversary AACID celebration in The Villages, Florida.

The Special Assistance Network has partnered with the Consumers Education Team at LendEDU to provide information to Special Needs individuals and their families about various housing concerns that affect people with Special Needs. A link has been set placed in the “Other Resources” section of the Special Assistance Network website that will be updated monthly by LendEDU. It is the desire of the Special Assistance Network that this regularly updated information on housing issues will be helpful to the families we serve.
The Special Assistance Network has partnered with the Central Florida Foundation to provide updated relevant information for Special Needs individuals and their families on various subjects that affect their everyday lives. This information will be posted regularly as available in the Special Assistance Network website in the “Other Resources” section. The Special Assistance Network is always trying to network with outside resources and be helpful to the Special Needs community.
Special Assistance Network has partnered with Cintas Careers to provide information on open positions for individuals with Special Needs. Cintas Careers posts on a regular basis open jobs for people with Special Needs, therefore the Special Assistance Network will list these postings through a reference to the Cintas website on the Special Assistance Network’s “Other Resources” section on our website. It is hopeful that this partnership will be helpful by providing information to those Special Needs individuals that may be looking for employment.

Due to demand, the Special Assistance Network has added Spanish speaking personnel in our South Orlando Branch Office to assist those families that only speak Spanish and need the assistance of the services provided by the Special Assistance Network for their Special Needs family members.
The Special Assistance Network was honored when asked previously by the Macy’s Department Stores (Macy’s, Inc.) to be a member of it’s “Give Back Task Force” to the communities it serves. This weekend, the Special Assistance Network and Macy’s partnered in one of their major stores for one of their well publicized events known as “Friends and Family” events, where Macy’s provided an in-store booth for the Special Assistance Network to discuss and present how the Special Assistance Network and Macy’s were working together to assist Special Needs families.
After recently presenting a seminar on Special Needs Trusts to the Advocates for Adult Children with Intellectual Disabilities (AACID), the organization graciously presented to the Special Assistance Network (SAN) and its staff a “Certificate of Recognition for outstanding generosity and dedication to community service in its work with Special Needs children and adults.”
The Special Assistance Network (SAN) was recently asked and made a presentation to a large group of parents with children and adult individuals with various disabilities about the benefits of Special Needs Trusts. The Special Assistance Network provided a two hour presentation and a follow-up one-on-one individual question and answer period for all the attending parents. There were numerous members of the Special Assistance Network available at this presentation and available so all questions were answered in a timely manner. The Special Assistance Network appreciates the opportunity made available from the national organization “Advocates for Adult Children with Intellectual Disabilities” (AACID) to make such a timely presentation and to be exposed to so many parents with questions that could be answered by SAN for their benefit.

Macy’s Department Stores (Macy’s, Inc.) is a large nationwide retail corporation founded in New York City that partners with select non-profit organizations throughout the country to extend and promote goodwill throughout the communities it serves. The Special Assistance Network is honored to be invited into this select group of providers that are here to help the people of the communities it serves.
As of October 8, 2018, the Special Assistance Network now has staff authorized as licensed agents to provide UnitedHealthcare medical insurance to special needs individuals of any age. We can offer and sign up special needs individuals that are on Medicare and Medicaid for the supplemental plans they need and have requested: the UnitedHealthcare Dual Complete LP (HMO SNP) in Florida and the UnitedHealthcare Dual Complete RP (PPO SNP) in Florida. This is exciting news because there have been many inquires for this and it is now available through the Special Assistance Network.

The Special Assistance Network is pleased to announce the acquisition of advisory firm Unlimited Individual Asset Advisors. Unlimited Individual Asset Advisors (a wealth management firm that works with all types of trust assets) agreed to join the Special Assistance Network to assist in helping clients in working with various types of assets that clients desire to place in their respective Special Needs Trusts. Special Assistance Network assists clients with traditional and non-traditional assets in their respective administration of such trusts. The addition of experienced trust asset advisors to the Special Assistance Network will enhance the services of the Special Assistance Network for any client requesting such assistance. In November 2017, in a court filing in the District Court for the City and County of Denver, Colorado, the District Court recognized and approved the Special Assistance Network to assist a family in need with a Special Needs adult in conjunction with their individual Special Needs Trust. The attorney of record advised that the District Court not only recognized the Special Assistance Network for its work in assisting families but also put its stamp of approval of recommending the Special Assistance Network to other families in need for these needed services. The Special Assistance Network is very pleased about this judicial recognition and will continue to earn people's trust throughout the United States as it expands it services nationwide.
